Poor design Review by James Kelson

Over the years I have made many dozens of strings using cheap serving tools. I decided it was time for a quality tool that would maintain consistent tension. This tool does maintain tension, but the design with a slot instead of a hole is, in my opinion, all but unworkable. I spent two hours trying to learn how to use this tool and end serve a single string. It was quickly apparent that the tool needs to be in the correct orientation but even then the string easily slipped out of the slot. This always occurred when there was no tension on the string when starting the serving or when whip serving at the end. Once out of the slot, the string jammed under the roller and could easily have been damaged or cut.

Some people may like the design but as I explained, I found it extremely frustrating. I gave up and threw it in the garbage.

I use bear paw and Beiter both tools are excellent... The Bear Paw is more cost effective than Beiter with the same high Quality... I think the Bear paw is easier to load than the Beiter...

2nd Best Serving Jig Review by John Howe

The Quality and Craftsmanship can not be beat for the price. It is a lot of tool for the money. Great Bargain. I would not waste my money on the cheap tin serving tools from other manufacturers. With that being said, I have an older Beiter that is hands down the best serving tool on the market. I tried this one due to similar quality at half the price and I am not really disappointed. If I never had a Beiter then I would be extremely satisfied with the BearPaw. However the Beiter has shown me how much better it can be. My biggest complaint is the narrow string guide base. It made it more difficult for it not to twist when serving. When it twists or rotates then it can be seen in the cleanliness of the serving. The Beiter has a wider base and provides more stability thus producing a tighter and cleaner looking serving.

Summary
------------------------------------------------------
Loading spool - Cumbersome (Much easier on the Beiter)
Serving Tension adjustment - Very Good
Serving consistency - Good (Not as good as the Beiter)
Craftsmanship - Great (Quality and Durability is impressive especially for the money)

Is the Beiter worth double the price? That is up to you! For Me, the Answer is Yes!

OK,

for all you stringers out there, here's a tip.

I wore my favorite serving tool slab dab out. I have 5 or 6 different ones, but thought I would upgrade to something a little more sophisticated.

Well, here ya go.

The Bearpaw Serving Tool is hands down the best serving tool I have ever used.

Extremely easy to load.

Extremely easy to keep serving tension how you want it.

Extremely smooth, and easy to operate.

Extremely gentle on both the string & serving during the process.

I've used this one for close to 3 weeks now, and love it more every time I pick it up.

If you're in the market for a new serving tool, I highly recommend this one. Save yourself some time, and frustration, and get it. You'll be glad you did, I guarantee it.

P.S.
It'll even work well for you well rope twisters also. 8^P / 8^)

Rick
