Hey, sometimes you want a good bow, but you don’t want to spend a fortune. The Fred Bear Montana Longbow fits that bill. This is a wildly popular bow that’s been in the Bear Archery lineup since the 1990s. It’s a quality, 64-inch longbow that performs well above its price-point.

• First introduced in the late 90s, the Montana has become very popular for it's clean and classic form
• Designed by one of Fred Bear’s long-time bowyers, Grant Neil Byce II
• Features a slightly reflexed design, tapered limb lamination, leather grip, and slim tips
• Black Hard-Rock Maple riser features limbs overlaid with clear white maple, backed and faced with high strength black fiberglass
• Tips are handcrafted and layered with black and white fiberglass
• Leather “shoot off the shelf” arrow rest allows for clean arrow flight
• Includes a Dynaflight 97 flemish string
• 64" AMO length

Nice bow but Fragile Review by Nut dog

Bear customer service is god awful and pathetic! I just sent back the new to me after getting thru 2 1/2 months incompetent people who don't understand. Been using Bear bows for almost 35 years and it just gotten bad. They sent me a right handed bow but I am left handed. This was last year and the other night the bow upper limb just folded over this was after I got about 100 shots on it getting it dialed in. This bow was much better than my first one but now I wait and see if they got their heads screwed on right. Shipped it back and it very costly thru UPS as recommended. Hopefully they don't just screw me over on this time around!

I am just starting into the traditional bowhunting world and could not be any happier with my first bow purchase! I have shot compound bow for last 20 years and this is hands down the best bow I ever owned! I am just amazed at how I could pick this bow up and in very little time I am feeling confident with my shot. Awesome bow is all I can say!

update from last review Review by plainswalker

After leaving last review of the Bear Montana longbow I contacted Bear Archery about problems with my bow. They suggested I send it to their factory in Florida for repairs at my cost for shipping. 2 1/2 weeks after they received it I was sent the bow back. When I opened the box it was a #50 bow not mine I sent in a #40 bow for repair. Called warranty department back and they said repairman put wrong markings on and it was my bow. Well after I put a bow scale on it and determined in fact it was a #50 bow with completely different wood grain than my bow I called warranty department back told them what I found out with the bow scale they told me to send it back to the factory at their cost and they would send me a brand new bow. I did receive my new bow a couple of weeks later and I'm happy with it. Still some cosmetic issues but nothing I can't live with and shoots fine. Almost 2 months of back and forth with the factory! I've owned Bear Archery bows for 30 years and it will be my last. I would not recommend them to a friend. Quality control is not what it was 30 years ago or 4 years ago when I purchased my last one! Hopefully you will never have to send one in for repairs. None of my problems were with or from Lancaster Archery! They have been a great company every time I order or have questions!

Disappointed in quality control Review by plainswalker

I would start buy saying I do and have owned Bear Archery bows and have always been very happy with their product for fit, finish, and beautiful made bows. The Bear Montana I recently purchased disappointed me greatly in overall fit and finish. It does shoot quite nice and once set up does the job nicely. I also own a Bear Grizzly I purchased in 2011 and it is work of art! I didnt return the bow as it is such a hassle and was afraid I would receive an exchange bow in same condition. It had scratches around sight window and rough edges on face of bow, glue smear near one of the tips, leather gripcame off first time I used the bow, looked like whoever made the bow didn't not care what kind of product they sent out. If I would have seen this bow in person I never would have bought it. No fault of Lancaster Archery as bow was sealed in bag by the factory.

The Real Deal Review by Graywolf

Ive been shooting traditional for many years now, and much of that time was with recurves - wish I had went ultra-traditional years ago! I have this longbow in 55 lbs. It is lightweight for hours of carry, shoots fast, hits hard, no hand shock, little stack (to me), and spined with 550 grain arrows, is highly accurate! For the price, it is the way to go to go old school, not break the bank, have an actual working hunting bow. This is the way to keep it real.

I have been shooting traditional for many years and most have been recurves. I got my hands on this bowand I never looked back. light weight, fast shooting, hard hitting, no hand shock, and absolutely quiet and very good accuracy. Anyone wanting something more traditional, and more old school and with a great value, this is the best way to go to keep it real.

Ive been reading reveiws mostly positive about this bow so I went to my local bow shop and gave it a try and was surprised at the power and nice draw ;smooth..... I tried a bow that was a 150.00 more and couldn't justify spending the extra money ...I bought the bow with string suppressers put on it ; and twisted the string to a brace height of 7 1/4 shot it and adjusted my nock point(first time doing either one) dont be afraid to play with it; now that o ly took a few minutes ..my montanna shoots great lots of power 50 lbs. And accurate..... Love it ! And with the money I saved; bought another 3 d target ...happy happy happy.....

I recently purchased one of these and was surprised by the quality of the bow at this price. It is an underrated bow like the Grizzles also made by bear. Shoots while very quiet once I get it tuned up it's gonna be a even better shooter. Anyone wondering whether or not to purchase this bow just do it it's worth it.

started off with a verna, cracked before 500 shots. Thanks LA for no hassles and I paid the diff and return/new bear in hand. 2 days very nice, no hand shock, very smooth draw. If I am lucky enough to get more expensive bows it would be funny to find out they dont shoot any better for the money. Just more fancy...looking?
wrote this for the guy like me wondering what to get,

This bow is worth every penny spent. Its a sweet shooter. It has a smooth draw and there is no hand shock. It is also extremely accurate. The only bad part about it is the cheap leather handle. But that can be easily fixed. Overall GREAT bow especially for the money!!!
