Excellent starting point Review by Tim Case

I was thrilled when my friend, Michael Holson, asked me to read and review his first book. As an instructor, it is good to step back once in a while and pretend you are just starting on your archery adventure; it gives perspective and forces you to remember that we all started somewhere.

Learnt It Outdoors 3D and Target Archery is a great starting point for those who want to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow and/or bring their family along for the ride. I should state now that this is not a certification course, but it is a course for those without easy access to certified instructors and enables them to bridge the gap. Consisting of an instructor’s guide and a student manual, this package does an excellent job of emphasizing form development, range and equipment safety and equipment familiarity. It has engaging exercises that teach as well entertain, keeping the sport fun and interactive… in fact, the one question in every exercise is “did you have fun”?

Some highlights of the book: range estimation- this is a skill seldom covered, but essential to 3D and bowhunting. Safe range layout- always important even in the back yard, string bow creation and purpose and the student manual. One item included in this book, journal writing, is seldom emphasized in other training aids, but is really emphasized here. Journals engage the student as well as encourage the use of the written word, a skill mostly avoided in the age of text and social media; writing builds language skills and comprehension skills that are essential in communication.

If you’re seeking a way to get into archery or get someone else into archery this package is for you

Excellent all around Review by Ed

We just recently finished a copy of this book. Really as an education for me to better understand archery as both of my daughters are active in the NASP program in their schools. My youngest also has been actively reading it and it was like a lightbulb went off. The book is written in a fashion that makes sense. My middle school archer is really excited about it. It includes all of the things that her coach is teaching her, and serves as a great reinforcement! This book is a great supplement to the coaching the kids receive and I would also recommend it to parents that are archers, or if you are like me and like to provide your kids tools they can use.

Great Educational Tool Review by Chris

I have had the chance to go through the book in its entirety. As a NASP BAI Certified Instructor with over 30 years of archery experience, the book will supplement our current teachings to help take the students and young coaches archery prowess to an all new level. The amount of information and the way it is explained is simplistic and will give the reader a much better understanding of equipment and most importantly "archery speak". The level of detail is very well appreciated throughout. I recommend this to anyone looking to expand their coaching capabilities, which will help reach any novice looking to get into the archery sports.
