Best Riser Under $450 Review by joeytree

Dampening trumps speed any day (e.g., better to be under-bowed than over-bowed). So a well cast Mg riser beats a machined Al riser in my book. The riser is perfectly balanced around the pivot point, and the grip is great. The only concern is a slight increase in possibility of stripping threads since Mg is softer than Al (which is also why it dampens better than Al). But treat your gear well and there are no worries. The only better risers (functionally) that I know of are the Hoyt risers with at least a semi-closed limb pocket AND the Pro Series floating limb bolts. But the least expensive of those is $650. So unless you are ALREADY competing AND your technique is impeccable, go with this riser. The Stark Mg riser is also worth a look, but it doesn't come in a left-hand version.

That being said, since archery is a hobby, you should go with whatever you like more (aesthetics wins out for some). Personally, I'll stick with the Rio until I'm competing and am at a level where it's worth it for me to spend $650+ on a left-handed 27" riser for my 31+" draw length. In the meantime, I'd rather spend the money on decent limbs. Better to put a Porsche engine in a Civic than a Civic engine in a Porsche.

Very good bow!!! The way it fits in your hand is amazing and the grip is fantastic. Straight from the box the bow was already completely aligned and the bow is super light. Comparing the Samick Avante which I have to this bow is a world of difference. The bows are the same height but the bow is 100x Lighter. Love this bow and would recommend it for all intermediate shooters.
