IT's NO DOUBLE BULL Review by Matthew

Gave the Mantis 2 a try - price was right, design was intriguing. Set the blind up in the field in August ... its November now. Stable, withstood the weather (rain and wind), color seems to have held up okay to the sun; a little fading but not bad. Shucks water well - no drips. My gripes? The windows are too low. I'm average man sized, 6 ft tall 175#. Sitting on a double bull stool, you can see my waist from outside at 15 yards. I've trimmed up the window bottoms some to give more cover. The window height to the roof is good, they are just too low at the bottom. Sitting on a turkey seat wtih 3" legs is perfect, but not doable for a long sit. The eccentric angles and pitched roof design result in a lot of wasted interior space along the walls and in the corners. I stuff my gear in to the corners to use the space but then I contact the walls trying to reach into a pack, etc. - not good. using a 28" axle-to-axle bow (Triax) in a ground mounted bow holder, its about all I can do to sit far back as possible and have room for the bow to stand up. I need to get off the stool and kneel in the center to have adequate room to draw - the sloped roof impacts the interior height, forcing the shooter to be in the center. The zipper door is really loud and some of the window covers don't fit tight enough to keep out all the light. I've been a double bull user for years - they are a PiTA to setup, but they are a much nicer blind all around compared to the Mantis. The blind will see its serviceable life, but I'm sticking with the double bull. I think the Mantis would do well as a gun blind, but for a bow hunter, its not ideal.
