Boringly dependable heads Review by Varmintslayer

I've shot 100 gr. thunderheads for over 20 years. During this time I let the air out of a lot of lungs. Not once have I or anyone I know had a thunderhead fail. The same can't be said for the expandables my friends and family use(d). I will be the first to admit that a properly opening Rage, spitfire, or (insert your favorite wide cut expandable here" leaves a better blood trail. I've seen it with my own eyes. I also have spent hours tracking deer that were hit with expandables that didn't open, never recovering the animal. Thunderheads have always provided a complete pass through for me. When put through the vitals, the animal will usually be found within a hundred yards depending on the animal's alertness at the shot. There will be a good enough blood trail to recover the animal. Tracking is a requisite part of hunting. In my humble opinion a hunter should develop his tracking skills instead of using a mechanical as a crutch. Anything "mechanical" in life can fail. Thunderheads don't. I've never shot them over 300fps, but can say under that they shoot like a dream! They're probably the sharpest head available. I've not compared every head out there of course, but of the many I have handled, thunderheads were head and shoulders above the rest. Turkeys are probably the only species I might prefer a rage. They are a real pain to find if they fly off. A string tracker is cheap insurance if you want it. This my experience with thunderheads, and I hope it is of use to someone. Shoot straight!

dependability Review by libertyfirst

I have used the 125and the 100 gr. Thunderheads for so many years now that they seem like friends. These heads are easy to tune to perfection and are the most dependable heads that you can imagine. The largest game that I have used them on is whitetail but that is basically the only large game that I hunt. The price is very fair, the blades are razor sharp,(and sharpen nicely)and the head typically spins very well on a straight shaft. Buy with confidence!

I have numerous buck that fell to the cutting edge of this broad head. I was curious to try the other expandables like Rage they look appealing but priced higher. I get this feeling why try to fix what is not broke. I actually have both they both shoot the same with my set up. Have both in the quiver its just the question which do i use the one that has been effective for me or try the new one. deep down its hard to beat ol reliable the thunderhead 100
