Good bow as is. Very good bow with a few minor upgrades. Review by Michael Walsh
Quality
Price
Value

This bow is a good value for the price. It is tough as nails and reasonably easy to tune. It has a surprisingly smooth draw and doesn't stack until after a 30" draw. Once tuned and with a good string it shoots as better than PSE's Razor Back Jr, and almost as good as the PSE Razor Back 62". Once tuned this bow is a great way to teach and learn instinctive archery for youth and adults.

The arrow rest is a cheapy $2.00 stick on model, but is reasonably durable and doesn't ruin feather fletchings. The string appears to be a Dacron endless loop and the serving is a too small diameter letting the arrow nocks attached to the string but easily slide down the string. The thing unpadded brass string nock supplied is useless.

Victory Ares/Venus 500 or 600 spine arrows with a 100 grain field point at full length (29") work well with a 28" draw. With a D-97 Flemish twist string and 330 grain arrows the bow chronographs at about 140 fps, finger released, with a 28" draw and 128 fps with the supplied string.

This bow is made by Arc-Rolan for PSE. They recommend an 18.5z cm to 19.5 cm (7 to 8 inch) brace height.

I highly recommend using feather fletched arrows with this bow, as vanes cause erratic shot placement. I also recommend getting a Flemish twist string to more easily tune the brace height and a set of good string nocks. A $20 string and the nocks make this bow perform as well as a bows 3 to 4 times the price.

tremendous value, fun, has some limitations Review by Archer with bifocals
Quality
Price

This is not a bad bow for casual use, it's very inexpensive and a good value. Good for kids who just want to try out the sport, good to loan to friends, However....
The ambidextrous design requires a thick riser that has almost 3/8 inch for the arrow to bend around, with such a light draw weight requiring very lightly spined arrows. With inexpensive wood arrows, I found that at 30 yards I had to aim way past the the left hand side of the haybales at my local range to hit a paper plate. I had to make my own aluminum arrows with the lightest available shafts with feather fletches to come even close to the correct spine for my 26 inch draw length. At $6 each for the total arrow, you will spend more on 10 arrows than on the bow.

For the additional cost roughly equal to taking your family to a cheap steak dinner, something like a Cartel triple or Samick polaris will be much more useful, if you shoot more than a few times a year.

Great beginner bow Review by Creeper

I was looking @ beginner Bows to instruct and introduce young and old to the enjoyment of Archery. After reading the reviews I ordered the Snake and am glad to say I'm not disappointed. The bow arrived in good condition although it had a sticky residue on parts of it that was easily cleaned off. Stung the bow up and put one of the nocks that came with it and an arrow rest (came w/ 2 nock locators, 2 RH and 2 LH stick on arrow rest in the package). Headed to the back yard for a test. I must say even though it's an inexpensive bow it shot pretty well for me and being only a 20lb draw weight was very easy to hold @ full draw. (Mind you I'm a lefty and had set this bow up right handed). As of now my Wife, Daughters, Son inlaws, Grand children, even my 70 yr old Mother in law has shot this bow. I believe I have found the perfect introduction recurve for my venture. Will definitely be ordering more.

I have shot recurves and longbows for over 50 years and have introduced people of all ages to the wonderful sport of archery. The PSE Snake bow is a perfect teaching and learning tool, and FUN. Also, old archers like me who no longer have the strength for much heavier bows will find the Snake surprisingly accurate and allow longer shooting sessions, and FUN. There's that word again...FUN. That's what it's all about.

Love this bow!! Review by Jen

I'm relatively new to archery and decided on this bow because I liked the price, the low draw weight, and look of the bow. This bow is perfect to start out on, especially if you're unsure if you'll stick with archery. It's a great value for the price. It's very light weight, sturdy, accurate, looks great, and is easy to practice with. This bow is perfect for getting the basics down before graduating to a more advanced/expensive bow. The only downsides are that the bow grip is a bit slim and that the arrow rests it comes with are a little on the cheap side, but the arrow rest issue is an easy fix. Aside from those two issues I absolutely love this bow. It is worth every penny and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in trying archery!

I got this for form rehearsal and it does this well. It pairs well with Gold Tip Traditional 1535/600 spine arrows w/125gr. field tips. Needs some fabric and/or leather wrapped around the grip to fatten it up a bit though. Started getting good groups in a short time.

Bought the bow from a retailer in my city after reading all the reviews on it. I am 25 years of age and brand new to archery. I have been told it is a youths bow but i don't care. The lower draw weight makes it easy to practice my technique with a drawn bow. Unfortunately when I was ready to put the arrow rest on, my bow had 3 left rests and 1 right. Besides that one minute detail, I am quite impressed and will be recommending it to anyone who has a slight interest in archery.

I bought this along with 12 capitol aluminium arrows and i have to say this bow is awesome. It has a really smooth and beautiful riser. I'm gonna spraypaint it silver so it looks like Katniss's bow. But one thing i dont like is that the draw weight could be more. Oh and also, all the hunger games fans over here: the bow from catching fire is the hoyt buffalo silver riser/blackout !;) Happy hunger games and may the odds be ever in your favor!

pse snake bow Review by Old Archer

Got this for my girlfriend to learn with. I have done business with Lancaster archery before, so they were the first I went to when she said she wanted a bow. The snake was the perfect choice. It is light enough to easily handle, and casts quick for a light weight. I enjoy shooting it myself, even though I have been shooting for nearly 60 years. I have a mind 50 that is my choice for recurve bows, but this little pse is an easy and accurate shooter. I would recommend this for any beginner to archery, or anyone just weekend target shooting. a After a week she was shooting respectable groups. She loves it, and so do I. I am sure it is durable and will last us a long time. Old Archer.

I picked this up at my local archery shop awhile back. i was looking for a simple traditional bow to practice form, and have fun. what I got is the best money I've ever spent, really! its worth more than there charging. to start off it looks great. size, shape and color make for a superb looking bow. the draw weight is a little light 22-25ish but fine for beginners to get form and fundamentals down. and great for kids. the one piece all synthetic construction makes for a very hearty bow, able to take the punishment of a new archer. its easy to handle and you will not tire even after a long shooting session the light weight makes target acquisition a breeze, its great for instinctive shooting. I was getting 10 inch groups at 30ft after only an hour. the rest it came with is cheep, but worked for awhile till it fell off due to the double side tape, really its only flaw, but no problem I upgraded to a better spring powered one. it has decent speed target depth 1-1 1/2 inches in foam at 20 feet. and for distance I can reliably get 100 yards. all in all, its worth every penny, I love it, my friends love it, my kids love it. you can't go wrong.

I've owned this bow over a year. I've enjoyed many hours outside with my son shooting this bow. This bow is great for anyone over 12 years old no matter your skill level. Best $40 I ever spent. It's very well built and durable. Sometimes I put an arrow in the left and right rest and shot two at a time. Not very many bows you can do that with. This thing is so much fun.

LOVE IT! Review by Katniss's Twin

I just got this bow yesterday. Ordered it Monday night, and got it on thursday, so the delivery time was great. I bought this one instead of buying the “capitol recurve bow” to safe a good $30 and painted it silver. It looks just like the one from Hunger Games, and I love that. And I bought 6 “capitol arrows” as well. They are beautiful and durable. Only negative things I have to say is that when I took the bow out of the packaging, it had some sticky goo stuck to it, nothing sanding or goo begone couldn't fix. I do wish it was packaged better in the box, mainly because my bow came with 1 or 2 scratches and a small chip at the handle (when I stray painted it, it looked ok) . But overall I am EXTREMELY satisfied with what I got :) Thank You Lancaster Archery .

I bought this bow because my kids had outgrown the Bear Crusader I had bought them last year and they aren't quite big enough to pull my 35# Howatt Cavalier. It came with a string, 4 arrow rests (2 RH and 2 LH) and 2 nocking points. It is perfect for backyard archery - not powerful enough for hunting, but perfect for targets at a 10 or 15 yard range, or even further. I was able to use one of the extra arrow rests on the Crusader, too. We have been using Easton Scout II and Genesis arrows, both of which are inexpensive, durable and work well in this bow.

I ordered this bow just a few days ago, and it was delivered very quickly with no complaints! I am more than happy with my purchase.
The only negative thing I could say about this bow is that when I first opened the box, there was a gooey-type substance on it. Fortunately, I had some Goo Be Gone and it came off without damaging the paint.
I was worried I wasn't going to be able to shoot very far, but this bow shot like a breeze. I could really feel the power behind it, which was very impressive for the price of this bow! The black is very sleek and I couldn't be happier with the performance.
Don't forget to snag up an armguard and string wax, as both things come in handy and are relatively inexpensive on this site!

I have been shooting Compound Bows for a while and wanted to get into recurve as well.

This bow was a great price and also ambidextrous so both my wife and I can use it, myself being left handed. We've only had it for a few hours now and can't put it down. So much fun! Its weight is good and accurate but challenging. I could shoot this bow all day and not get tired.

This bow is certainly not bad! For $40 you get a great practice bow, and it comes with 2 arrow rests and nok sets, who can argue with that? It's also surprisingly accurate. My only caveat is that the shelf is really small. But, if you're just getting into archery, don't want to spend big $$ and just try it out, GET THIS BOW! I especially appreciate that it is ambidextrous, so you can let your lefty/righty friends try it out too!

If you are new to archery, I highly suggest you start with this bow. I'm impressed with the quality and the shooting! When I went to LAS, they were very kind and helped me pick out the proper arrows, wax, bow stringer, etc. I was given great advice.

However, don't let the fact that this is a "beginner" bow fool you. I highly recommend you buy a finger tab/shooting glove. I didn't have a glove the first day I used the bow and my fingers were getting so sore I had to discontinue shooting for the day. Once I bought the glove, shooting has been easier and pain free. I absolutely love this bow!

Good first bow for teenager to adult Review by seh903

I have been thinking about getting into archery for over a year. I did a lot of searching and reading on the Internet to see what a beginner needed to get started. The main requirement all my research agreed on was a bow with a light draw weight. The weight suggested varied from 20# to 35#.
I decided on the PSE Snake because of the 22# draw weight and the $40 price tag. The low draw weight helped me concentrate on consistency in my form and at $40 I could see if archery was something I wanted to continue with, without breaking my meager bank account. This bow is also ambidextrous and I was able to determine that I was more accurate shooting left handed even though I am right handed (my left eye is dominant).
I recently decided that archery is a sport I wish to pursue and have upgraded to a Samick Sage LH in 35# plus a set of 50# limbs.
I now loan out the Snake to any of my friends interested in archery, one of which will be ordering a Snake for his teenage daughter who has enjoyed shooting it and says it looks like Katniss Everdeen's bow (“The Hunger Games” I had to look it up).
The only drawback is finding arrows with a light enough spine. I found wood arrows with plastic vanes (to keep cost low) shot off a simple plastic arrow rest to be the most forgiving, even the lightest spined aluminum arrow I could find, at a reasonable cost, fishtailed all the way to the target, but they still grouped decently.
Bottom line, This is an extremely durable bow at a low draw weight and a great price. If you have friends or teenagers interested in archery this is the bow to start with.

I had gotten this as a "starter bow" and honestly had not expected much out of it. It isn't fancy looking, but it is sturdy, accurate, and has stood up to some abuse. It also has a low draw weight which is great for long practice sessions. We may eventually get another bow, but this is a great one for anyone just starting out, or even those with some experience who just want something that's fun, inexpensive, and holds up after repeated use.

PSE has some many good things going on with this bow. I love this bow. Have been into archery for 30 years. So simple, I started shooting and enjoying it without any arrow rest or string nock right out of the box. Intended as a gift for my 8 yr old, but the pull weight a bit difficult.

Not a hunting bow, just fun for backyard plinking.
